Phaseolus vulgaris
TheĀ pinto beanĀ is a variety of common beanĀ (Phaseolus vulgaris), in SpanishĀ they are calledĀ frijol pinto. It is the most popular beanĀ in Northern MexicoĀ and theSouthwestern Unites States,Ā and is most often eaten whole (sometimes in broth), or mashed and then refried. Either way, it is a common filling for burritosĀ in Mexican cuisine, or as a side dishĀ in New Mexican Cuisine.
