Phaselous Vulgaris
TheĀ black turtle beanĀ is a small, shiny variety of theĀ common beanĀ (Phaseolus vulgaris) especially popular inĀ Latin American Cuisine, though it can also be found in theĀ CajunĀ andĀ CreoleĀ CuisinesĀ of south Louisiana. Like all varieties of the common bean, it is native toĀ the Americas, but has been introduced around the world. It is also used inĀ East Indian cooking,Ā PunjabiĀ cuisine, where it is known asĀ maa ki daal .Ā The black turtle bean is often simply called theĀ black beanĀ (frijoles negros,Ā zaragoza, judĆa negra, poroto negro,Ā orĀ caraota o habichuela negraĀ inĀ Spanish; andĀ feijĆ£o pretoĀ inĀ Portuguese), although this terminology can cause confusion with otherĀ black beans.
